Undo action on form in Word

Using a form set up in Word, the protection padlock was activated and the
form was completed but one field was missing. The padlock was "unlocked" to
allow editting to put in this field but all the typed text was suddenly
deleted without warning. There is no undo function on the form facility in
Word. Does anyone know how to get the text back. Saving as we go along is
not an option as we are completing the form from a telephone conversation.
Autosave would be beneficial in hindsight obviously but our immediate problem
is to get back lost information.

You must have a rather old version of Word, as unprotecting and reprotecting
a form using the padlock button on the Forms toolbar does not clear the data
in recent versions.

I think you only have to go back to Word 2000 for this behaviour but I'm
afraid there isn't anything you can do. If the data have gone, they've gone.
I know it's too late now, but you really shouldn't be unprotecting forms via
the UI in normal circumstances. I don't, however, follow the logic that says
you can't save as you go along just because you're on the 'phone; the other
party wouldn't be affected by it (whereas, clearly, they have been by your
not having done it).
