Greetings,

Ive set up user level security on my db which is used my about 6 users
across the company.

When I connect to the db from my PC, I am asked for a user id and password
(the id is filled taken from my PC uid). It appears that no one els is being
required to enter the password.

I have removed all rights to the admin account (is now a member of the users
group with no rights).

I also am required to enter a password on all other dbs I am working on.

Have I really done messed this up? Do I need to start from scratch (and if
so how?)

Please help

Thank you

If you want to start from scratch the best way is to restore a backup.
You *did* make a backup before starting this advanced task, right?

From your description it appears you missed some steps, and possibly
used the standard system.mdw or used workgroup administrator to set
the new .mdw to be the default one. Neither is a good idea, and it
seems to indicate you did not first download, study, and fully
understand the Access Security FAQ from microsoft.com. As my friend
Larry used to say: 30-some pages, no filler.

Tom -

Yes I did make a backup.

I did download and study the FAQ. Your assumption that I missed a step is
probably the more correct.

Will I need to remove the standard mdw files?

What are the steps to back out of this?

Thanks,
