Undo is very slow in Word X for Mac

P

Peter Arneson

I have Word X for Mac 10.1.4 running on a PowerBook G4 1GHz with 768 MB
of RAM.

I work with 100-page screenplays in Courier font with no graphics (approx.
200 KB files). I like to work in Page Layout view with the zoom at 150%.
When I choose the Undo command after deleting a few words, the screen
usually takes 2-3 seconds to redraw. This constant waiting is killing me.

An Apple Store tech checked the machine and permission bindings (or
something like that). I also reinstalled the Word and all the updates. Didn't
help.

Any ideas?

For 100-page documents, Normal is going to be faster than Page Layout view.
I don't know whether Zoom is slowing it down, but you might want to
experiment with upping the font size instead of zooming.

You can run through the troubleshooting suggestions here:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

But it may or may not help. Also note that there are Mac-specific
newsgroups, which are better places to post questions about Word
misbehaving, rather than simply how to internally manipulate Word.
See here for gateway to Mac-specific ngs:
