undo - redo button

It happened all of a sudden:
when I type something in a cell and move to another cell, the undo button
greys and the undo function is therefore disabled.
It never happened before, and I have no recollection of having modified
settings. in this regard I could not find any setting to enable/disable the
undo-redo buttons.
can please somebody help/
thanks

I don't know. I assume that there are always, one way or another, some macro
running. I certainly have not - as far as know - "made" any macro running,
and antivirus, etc is always up to date and running so I would exclude there
is any malicious program running in the background.
also all other progrmas and in excel, formulas etc, are working fine.
any suggestion?
thanks,
G

also if I click tools, macro, macro, there are no macros in the list.
if this is the correct way to check.

You could have event code running.

This type of code would be in a Worksheet module or in Thisworkbook module and
don't show in Tools>Macro>Macros

Right-click on your each sheet tab and "View Code".

Anything in there?

Right-click on the Excel Icon to left of File on menu and "View Code".

Anything there?

Hallo. right clicked on sheet tab(s) and View Code. a window opens and there
are two dropdown menus - one indicates (general) the other (declaration)
in these there is nothing.
if I dropdown (general) to (worksheet) then the (declaration) becomes a
series of options as (activate), (BeforeDoubleClick) etc.
these options if i highlight them, produce texts as
"Private Sub worksheet_selection change (ByVal target as range)
end sub"
obviously each option in the dropdown produces a different "sub" or whatever
they are.
same thing applies when right click Excel icon as suggested.
only difference that instead of "worksheet" we have "workbook", for the rest
same type of window with (general) on the left and (declaration) on the right.
hope this is the information you requested.

Go to "Tools>Options>'Save' tab and see if the "Save AutoRecover info every:
XX minutes" is checked. IF it is, then each time Excel autosaves, it will
reset your undo/redo button automatically.

You have done it correctly.

Sounds like nothing in sheets or thisworkbook that would give you any problem.

THE FOLLOWING from Dana DeLouis SOLVED THE PROBLEM. at least for the moment.
we will see when PC is restarted and all programs reloaded. A N Y W A Y - it
seems the following is working although the link assumed there was a Dword
value in registry set to "New Value #1" while in fact to correct the problem
I had also to cancel first the registry value "UndoHistory" that was present
also. then with no DWORD Values I was eventually able to follow the procedure
indicated in the link and edit the value itself. Thanks Dana!!!! :))
