Undoing changes in WORD

E

ems2000

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) I forgot to click 'Save as' before using the document as a template and hence lost ALL of my original work (silly error!)

Is there any way at all of going back through log of all changes made and recovering this information - either in Word or perhaps a back up on my computer?

I would be VERY grateful.

Thank you.

No, not once you have closed the document.

When you close a file, Word trims out the UNDO buffer, leaving only the
saved version.

Sorry.

If you have *closed* the file there is no way to restore it to a prior state
using Undo. The Undo list is cleared when you close the file. If you did
create a backup copy it should not be affected.

Another possibility is if you use the OS X Time Machine feature. You should
be able to retrieve a copy of the file that predates the changes. See Mac
Help on Time Machine if you aren't familiar with its use.

One way to avoid this in the future is to use the 'Open:' list in the lower
left corner of the Open dialog... Select 'Copy' rather than 'Original'.
