Suppress "Space Before" in the Paragraph settings of the Style you are using
for the headings.
Word does not always suppress space before at the top of a page or column as
it should. The best work-around is to set the style for those paragraphs so
that there isn't any space above.
For example, if the column always starts with an Index 1 style, set Index 1
style to have Space Above = 0. As far as possible, I format my styles with
0 space above to avoid this problem of uneven column balance.
The exception I make is for Heading styles. Heading 1 and 2 have 0 space
above, because they will always be at the top of a page in my documents.
The other headings do have space above to give heading space, because they
will only be at the top of a page if Word puts them there, and if Word puts
them there, Word *will* suppress the space.
If YOU put a paragraph to the top of a page or column, Word will NOT
suppress the space. So learn to use "Keep With Next" and "Keep Lines
Together." If you set both, Word flips the paragraphs to the top of the
next page or column for you, and in doing so, suppresses the space above as
it should.
Hope this helps

How can I make the header in Word even over two columns. In all other
pages, the header is even, but at the beginning of my alphabetical
index, the left side of the header is lower than the right side.
