Unexpected Error - in PWA when My tasks page is accessed

S

Sunanda

one of my resources is getting "Unexpected error " in PWA when he tries to
access My tasks page. All others are able to view their tasks page.

Also, we ( practically) face the same error when we try to submit the task
updates by clicking 'submit selected' button in Mytasks page.

Can someone suggest a resolution for the problem!

Thanks,

Sunanda:

This indicates assignment level corruption. If you can determine which
project is the source of the corruption, you can save it as an XML or MPP
file, delete it from the server, and then import it back in. This will solve
the problem.

Hi Gary!
Did you try to investigate the possible reasons for assignment corruption ?

Goofy user behavior can cause it, but this seems to be a random thing.
Perhaps the result of a system bug or bugs. I can't say for sure, and MSFT
does not provide information about bugs until they are fixed, other than
confirming that they exist when you can reliably reproduce one. So far, I
can't come up with the steps to reproduce, but I'd welcome hearing from
anyone who can.

Gary,

We've seen this a number of times. Typically it is the result of a bum
'assignment' and subsequent publishing. Typically, if you can identify the
problem project/task, remove the assignment, republish the plan, recreate the
assignment and publish a second time, all is well.

But if this only occurs to a single user? Still have to delete and
republish the project, just because of a singles user/resource?

All of my users (administrators, team members, team leads) are experiencing a
similar problem while accessing their "My Tasks" from PWA. When viewing the
table of their task name, start date, finish date, % complete, if they select
the task name which becomes a link, they are taken to the task details page.
This page is nice because it provides a lot of information and some
additional context about the task. However, if they select any one of the
three buttons at the bottom of the page to save, cancel, or submit, they are
taken to the generic Project Server error page.

I've experienced this with several enterprise server projects and the result
is consistent with all users that are assigned tasks...they get the error
page.

The only way they are able to update their task status is by staying on the
"My Tasks" page and entering their percent complete and clicking on "submit".

Any ideas where to look?

Thanks

Does this happen to all users on all projects?

I can't say that I've tried all of the projects, but it happens on the three
that I've tried and with all the users.

Would it be all the users assigned to the project or just the user assigned
to the specific corrupted activity?
I have 35 projects each with a few hundred assignments, how can I determine
where the problem is?

I think this is a known, annoying bug... it has to do with:

adding a user to a task that already has been assigned to another user (so
now the task has 2 users) and work has started and it is published... i've
also seen:

adding more time to a user's task assignment when it had already been
completed and there are other users assigned to the same task...

I've been able to solve this very annoying bug by deleting the task that is
corrupt and republishing or just deleting and reimporting/publishing the
entire plan.... This is annoying because it orphans everybody else's
timesheets....

adding/removing/increasing resources to ongoing tasks is very common need in
project management, I can't believe this bug is not solve yet....

cheers

I really can't believe that this issue has not been resolved with a
hot fix yet. This is a critical issue and the workarounds are really
not condusive to a production environment. Our client has 550
projects loaded onto their MOPS2007 implementation and the inability
to add additional resources to a task, add additional time to a task
that was previously complete and re-delegating tasks are vital to any
active project management environment. Our client experiences 10-12
corrupted assignments per day which really reflects badly on the
usability and reliability of the system. Running the SQL script to
finds the corrupted assignments and then deleting republishing and the
readding the tasks to a schedule is an invasive process to put our
clients' project managers through. Exporting the entire project to
XML and re-importing the schedules causes all completed tasks from the
past to be re-published as new tasks to a users' task updates page
which means a good portion of our client's users have to consistently
wade through hundreds of tasks to find their current assignments.

This bug has been mentioned online back to the Beta versions so I'm
kind of disappointed that it wasn't included in SP1 and doubly
disappointed that it didn't show up in the roll-up hot fix from Jan
28.

End of rant...

Is there an easy way to find out which project has the corrupt task? I am in
a development environment right now but any user that tries to access this
page is receiving the unexpected error. So, I am assuming it is one of the
tasks in one of the 9 or 10 test projects we have.
