unexpected error in Word when sending group e-mail

when I try to send an e-mail through Outlook to one of my distribution lists,
I get an "unexpected error in MS Word", and the e-mail won't send.

What version of Outlook and Word? Are you connecting to Exchange (and if
you are, are these personal distribution lists, or ones in Exchange) or an
Internet server?

How are you picking the distribution list? Just typing it in, or selecting
it from the address book?
