"Unexpected error" message when creating MDE file

Hi all,

Every time I create an mde file from my database, I get multiple error
messages: "Unexpected error (40230)"

I click through 10 of these, afterwhich my mde file is created. The mde file
seems to work fine, and I don't have any errors when testing it. However,
it's a bit annoying that this keeps on happening, and I'm hoping it doesn't
affect the database later on. Any thoughts?

Hi Steve,

Try a decompile or if possible importing all your objects into a new MDB
(using the same security if any) and then creating the MDE. That will likely
clear up the problem.

Thanks RJ.

After posting I googled the error message and found the instructions on how
to compile. Worked like a charm (though didn't reduce the size of my db as
suggested it would on the site). I was just about to post when I got back on
and saw yours - I found the insructions at
http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/decompile.htm

It really helps to start with a fresh shell and import your objects from time
to time. It cleans stuff out that a decompile misses. Whenever I have a
head scratcher problem, my first intuition is re-import into a new shell.
Fixes the problems more often than not.

And yes it really does reduce the size! Kinda of like going to the spa for
Access DB's.

The thing about a shell is to have all your references already set and your
security (if any) already set.
