Unexpected function button behavior after spreadsheet import

Hi,

I'm running Office pro 2003 on Dell Optiplexes running XP Pro, all
up-to-date with Office and XP patches and service packs.

My users are experiencing unusual function button behavior whenever they
import an Excel Spreadsheet created by another program (Activant Eagle
software).

The percent style, currency style, and comma style (and possibly others)
change what they actually do. They function ok before the import, but after
the percent style actually formats the cells as dates (crazy stuff, neh?)

I've spent the morning searching the KB without luck, any advice or
experience with this problem out there?
