Unexpected Style Changes

J

Jerry

I am using Style Organizer to copy both default and user
defined styles from one document to another in Word 2003.
All numbered and bulleted list styles (user defined or
default) change indent settings in the new document. All
other styles copy OK. I have tried copying the "base
styles" first then the remaining style but still no luck.
All indent setting have been made within the Bullets and
Numbering format screen and not the Paragraph format
screen. Any suggestions. Thanks

Hi Jerry

It's a known problem, it's irritating, and there's not all that much you can
do about it.

See How to safely update a document's styles from its template without using
the Organizer (and how to make the Tools + Templates and Add-ins dialog
safe)
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/MacrosVBA/UpdateStyles.htm

And, in the recipient document, select the offending paragraphs and do
ctrl-q to remove all direct paragraph formatting. This usually sets the
paragraph to the correct settings.

Hope this helps.
