Unexplained hyperlink additions in Excel 95/97

Whenever I start adding data to my Excel worksheet, I get a very specifc
(mailto: (e-mail address removed)) hyperlink populated throughout random cells (various
tabs too). I searched for a way to delete this hyperlinks via a macro and it
worked for a while and after adding date like copying and pasting, those same
random cells get populated with that very same hyperlink again. it's not even
the cells that I'm pasting over nor is it the source data i'm copying. the
hyperlinks literally just appear for no apparent reason and double the size
of the spreadsheet. help! I'm at a total loss on how to stop this odd
phenomena.

Do you have any addins or hidden workbooks loaded in Excel (or does the
offending file contain macros)?
Check Window, unhide. If that is grey, no hidden workbooks.

Next check Tools, addins. Note the ones checked and then start this process:

1 uncheck all
2 restart Excel
3 try if links still surface
4 check one addin of your list
5 start from # 2 until you've done them all or found the offending addin.
