unfiled notes location

New user here. My unfiled notes page is a section in my work notebook. I
don't think that's the way it started, was it? If not, can you please tell me
how to restore it to the default?

You can use

Tools | Option | Save | Unfiled Notes Section

to change the location of the Unfiled Notes section and some of the other
predefined paths in OneNote. The section needs to exist first so create a
blank section in your desired location before resetting the pointer to UFN.
