Unfiled notes synchronization

I am using a USB to synchronize folders between my machines. It works great.
However, I noticed that unfiled notes do not synchronize. Is there a
work-around for this?

Aloha jchris,

Ummm...file them? :) You could probably create a "Misc" notebook and move
the Unfiled Notes you want to sync to there, if there isn't already someplace
in your note system to file them.

iring network address" session finishes with "limited
or no connectivity").[...]

This symptom (poorly) indicates an incorrectly entered keyphrase,
in my experience.
[...]

That seems very unlikely to me: WPA-PSK would not be much of a
security system if you could successfully connect with an incorrect
passphrase as long as you used a static IP address!
Yeah, I know. I disregarded that part. A long acquiring network
address phase followed by "limited or no connectivity" is what I've
seen happen with a bad PSK, though. I hadn't tried a static IP on any
of the systems where I encountered that problem, though.
I have (tried a static IP with an incorrect PSK). It looked connected,
and perhaps the client wass. However, the client wasn't routed.

Are your unfilled notes in a notebook that is being synced? You can
check Tools, Filing Rules to see where they are.

I haven't touched 2003 since November...what features are in it and what
are not is blurry at best in my head

Yeah, this is the best approach. Go to Tools > Options > Filing rules and
change the location for your Unfiled Notes to be on your USB storage device.

Does anyone know where the unfiled notes section *should* be located?

Or, put differently, can the unfiled notes section simply be moved into a
notebook? I assume it would then show up, and be synched, as a section in
that notebook, as well as showing up under the unfiled notes tab. Would there
be any conflict?

My unfiled notes section is *not* inside a notebook by default. And it
happily syncs with the network when connected, but simply throws up error
messages when not connected.

It's technically within a notebook. What does it say the Unfiled Notes
folder path is?

Filing Rules says that the Unfiled Notes folder path is \OneNote Notebooks,
and this *is* the folder where Unfiled Notes.one is actually located.

This may technically be a notebook, by virtue of being the Unfiled Notes
folder path. But all of my (other) notebooks are folders *within* \OneNote
Notebooks:

\OneNote Notebooks\Notebook One\
\OneNote Notebooks\Notebook Two\
etc.

Is this the correct structure (or, an acceptable one)?

Hmm, maybe they should change this by default...
I'd just create a notebook and then change the unfiled notes folder path
to be that notebook. Then you don't have a sync problem anymore.

Unfortunately, this method only seems to work if the unfiled notes notebook
is kept open. Otherwise, the notebook isn't synched, and the same error
message -- OneNote cannot find a page on which to insert your printout, etc.
-- crops up.

Keeping the notebook open, of course, results in having two unfiled notes
tabs -- one the notebook, and one the default unfiled notes tab.

I suppose it would be possible to keep the unfiled notes section inside an
open notebook used for other purposes -- assuming we knew that this wouldn't
cause any conflicts. (Where *is* the unfiled notes section *supposed* to be,
anyway?)
