Unicode bullets?

Oz Springs

In a template (created on a Mac) I have included a style with bullet points
using Zapf Dingbats. The client (using Windows) said the bullets were
showing lambda, not bullets. I assumed he did not have Zapf Dingbats, so I
changed the bullets to Monotype Sorts which AFAIK is a standard Microsoft
font.

Now I am wondering whether bullets have moved in Windows to a new Unicode
spot and ³L² in Monotype Sorts will show up as ³L² rather than a big, round
bullet. Would that be the case, and if so how can I set the bullet so that
it displays properly.

Thanks for any help

Hi,

"Monotype Sorts" (a "Zapf Dingbats" clone) isn't included any more in Office.

You can use another symbol font, or characters from the "Geometrical Shapes" subset starting with U+25A0.
How many are available depends on the font, but many fonts include the large round bullet U+25CF.

You could also try U+2022 = Alt+0149, which is included in almost any old font, but maybe a bit too small unless you make it larger
than the paragraph font.

Didn't notice that I'm in a Mac group: Alt+0149 is the bullet to the left of the paragraph sign ¶ in the character map.
The default shortcut in my German version is Option+Ü.

Even a simple "." dot in "Times New Roman" might work, if blown up to about 5 times the regular font size.
But you'd likely need to set the pagaraph spacing to "Exactly: ## points" so the large bullet doesn't create a large empty space
above the paragraph.

Thanks. We¹ve decided to use the Arial bullet - which I think is too small
for bullets in a poster template - as it is safest since the template will
be used on a few PCs

Kind regards

Good choice, sir ;-)

If you format the bullet a bit larger than the rest of the text (which you can do in the numbering dialog, as you probably know),
you'd need again to be careful about increased paragraph spacing, changing it to "exactly" if necessary.

Klaus
