Unified messaging with Outlook 2007?

I just set up Outlook 2007 on my PC with the intent of using it for my home
business. I like how you can dial from a contact, but I am wondering what
options are out there for apps that work with Outlook that would deal with
inbound calls, Caller ID (contact pop-ups), voicemail, call forwarding, and,
ideally, dealing with inbound faxes on the same line.

I know a little bit about VOIP systems, and they call this unified
messaging, but I'm thinking VOIP and MS Communicator is overkill for my
application. If MS doesn't have something, maybe there's a 3rd-party outfit
doing something like this?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

most of those would be features of your modem, not added by 3rd party
programs - i.e., if the modem doesn't support caller id or fax, you will
never have caller id or fax.

I imagine you'd have to have compatible hardware, but this is about software,
about an app that works with or replaces a real phone on your desk (sometimes
referred to as a softphone app).

I used one at a former employer. It actually was embedded in Outlook, and
you could call from a contact file and Caller ID would pop up the contact's
info when they called you. This company had an IP phone system, but there's
GOT to be something like this for analog phone systems or lines. I know that
call centers has been using softphone apps for years.
