Uninstall multiple versions of Office

I have a problem with Office XP in that Outlook and Access always start with
the "Preparing to Install" message. OS is Windows XP SP3

This is because I have had multiple versions of Office on the machine and
have been getting away with it for the last few years and now it is catching
up on me. I have had Office 97, XP Developer and Office 2007. I need to
change the configuration of the Office XP installation and have done various
reinstalls, fixes and uninstall/reinstalls and used the Removal Wizards all
to no avail,

I am left with an Office 2007 Project Trial Version that will not uninstall
and several remnants of registry settings for Office 9, 10, 11 and 12.

I am writing software for a client in Office XP and want the XP Installation
to work properly.

Is there a Removal Wizard for Office 2007?

Can anyone suggest a good registry clean up for Office?

Has anyone any other suggestions please?

I tried Microsoft's instructions in the cited website today, and didn't get
past the first step (after I verified that I have computer administrator
access): when I try to uninstall any of the Microsoft Office Basic 2007 .msi
files, I get an error message saying "This patch package could not be opened.
Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact
the application vendor to verigy that this is a valid Windows Installer patch
package." Note that the software came installed on the computer by Dell.

An account with admin priveledges is not neccessary the same as 'an
