I uninstalled the beta of Microsoft Expression, and then went to check email
(Outlook). The windows installer popped up and started to try to install
Publisher. I had to hit cancel twice to stop it. Started MS Word, same thing
happened. Before the uninstall, everything was fine. I used Add Remove
programs to uninstall, which did it all, with no warnings about shared files,
etc.
I have disabled the installer for a temporary fix, but that's not a
permanent solution.
I have Office XP on this computer, it's been running for a couple years with
no problems. I am also hesitant to run the windows installer cleanup utility,
as this is my main computer.
I am using Windows XP SP2 with all patches and security updates, as does the
Office XP suite (all patches and security).
Anyone encounter this before? And does anyone have a solution to get rid of
the installer popping up. Also...should mention that there is no virus,
adware, spyware etc. on this computer. I keep it clean, and don't visit bad
sites. I also should mention that even though it's disabled, I see the
momentary popup of the installer box when I open Office products.
