Uninstall Office 2003 - Files still on PC

Two part question. First is when I install Office 2003 and I start word,
power point or any other part of it a box comes up and says "Please wait
please while windows configures microsoft office professional edition 2003".
It runs through a quick process and then starts the program. Every time I
open up an application this comes up. I have uninstalled the program, then I
run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, then I go into the C:/ drive and
delete the folder office was in, then I run the Office 2003 Resource kit
program - Removal Wizard. After all this I reinstall the program and it
still happens.

Second is after I uninstall everything and reinstall for some reason when I
go back into word it remembers what documents I had open and settings I had.
If I unistalled everything why would this stay? I am running Vista Ultimate
64. I have tried running a couple Registry Cleaner programs but each one
says that they cannot edit the registry in Vista. I am running as an Admin
also.

For your first question, are you logged on as an Administrator? When the
installer runs it is writing data to the Registry and in various files. If
these settings can't be saved then it will continue to write them each time
the applications start. I noted you are running as an Administrator but
since the Registry Cleaners fail that indicates something is wrong.

For your second question, uninstalling Office doesn't remove your personal
settings stored in the Registry and elsewhere.

Hey Beth, my account is an Admin account. When I run the registry programs
they say that I have to manually go in and edit it. I tried this but there
are hundreds of entrys that I have to delete. It seems that Vista is weird
like that. I get the same problem with read only files. No matter what I have
done, when I click on a file or folder on my system (no matter what drive, or
where it is) I cant take the read only attribute off. I have all the rights
as an admin and I have tried everything but for some reason I cant run the
reg edit programs and I cant take read only attributes off files. Any ideas?

I'm sorry, I don't have any other ideas except I'd say this is a Vista issue
and I'm not familiar with what you are encountering. Perhaps someone here
does or you might want to post in a Vista newsgroup to see if anyone there
is familiar with the issue you are encountering.
