Uninstall Office 2007 Beta - Completely

J

Jerry

Can anyone tell me how to uninstall Office 2007 Beta 2 completely. I've run
uninstall and the install cleanup and there are still duplicate icons of
Office 2003 and a heck of a lot of folders with Office (12) in the names.
I can not get my Office Standard Edition back up and running. I'm getting a
host of error messages when I try. The most recent is, In the Windows
Installer Dialogue Box: This package could not be opened. Verify that the
package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor
to verify this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
Don't know what all of that means but, truthfully and respectfully to MS,
I've had absolutely nothing but problems since installing the 2007 Beta 2,
mostly with Outlook which has prompted me to uninstall and TRY to go back to
2003.
thanks for the help. My Office is dead in the water!!

And now you see why you should not install beta software on production
systems. Try this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE INSTALLER STATES THE FOLLOWING:

Important Warning
The Windows Installer CleanUp Utility is provided "as is" to help resolve
installation problems for programs that use Microsoft Windows Installer. If
you use this utility, you may have to reinstall other programs. Caution is
advised.

I did run the cleanup utility and most of the 2007 office programs/icons were
not there to remove.
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 (Beta) still appears in the control
panel. When I click to remove it I get the message: Setup could not find any
programs to install. Please contact your system administrator.

Tweak UI used to have a feature that would remove the leftover names after
the program was uninstalled. I don't know if it still does but that's what I
would try.

Bob Buckland ?:-\)

Hi Jerry,

The Windows Installer Cleanup utility should be used 'sparingly' <g>.

First, because it only removes registry entries from an app, not any files on the hard drive. It's intended to get the computer
'clean enough' to reinstall software, rather than remove it.

Second, because it's going on the assumption you're going to reinstall, when you don't you can end up possibly causing an issue with
another app that you weren't targeting for removal, but that may be using a shared file.

If any of the shortcuts were not created by the original installation of Office (any version) but were, for example, added to the
desktop, or quick launch bar by a user, then the uninstall program basically isn't aware of them, as it didn't inventory those when
setup was run.

Really? I had to use it before and I could swear that it ran the MSI
uninstall.
