I hope there is a way to uninstall Word 2003 sp3 update. I have many old
word files that won't open now. I get the message that it is "blocked by my
registry policy settings".

It is not uninstallable. You'll need to uninstall word completely, then
reinstall.

Unfortunately, "pepper" is right - in their infinite wisdom, microsoft
disabled the option to uninstall this particular patch... the only way to get
your documents back is to completely uninstall your office suite, reinstall
it, then patch it manually - after which you must disable your automatic
updates - if you leave them on it will try to apply the SP3 again and you
will be back to square one. I think this is just a ploy to get everyone to
switch to office 2007... thats just my opinion. Trust me, I know what you
are going through - I am an IT tech for a high-end investment firm and now I
have at least ten pc's that I have to go through this with.

You could also try the following to get word to recognize old file formats.
From:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938810

Word
To enable Office 2003 to open files that are saved in previous Word file
formats, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and
then click OK.
2. Locate and then click one of the following registry subkeys: •
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Security\FileOpenBlock
•
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Security\FileOpenBlock

3. Double-click the FilesBeforeVersion registry entry, type 0 in the Value
data box, and then click OK.
