uninstall office XP after upgrade t0 2003

Upgraded to office 2003 from XP and it appears that XP didn't un-install. I
see the aps in the "add remove programs" and folders/files are still in the
program directory tree.

Is it safe to remove using the add/remove process through the control panel?

Yes, it should be. In fact, that's usually the recommended way to uninstall
programs.
