Uninstall/reinstall for sp1

J

Jayne

I'm confused. I have OneNote, and wanted to get the SP1, but it states I would need to uninstall everything once the final version comes out. Is this true? If so, am I not better off waiting for the final version. I don't know if I want to uninstall everything. Please help! Thanks.

Because its a beta, you will need to do the uninstall/reinstall routine...
whether you are better off waiting depends on your needs - it takes just a
few minutes to uninstall/reinstall... and the new features are well worth
it, IMHO.

It's true, but it does not take a lot of time to uninstall ON then to
install SP1. Your settings and Notes files will be retained and not
harmed by the process.

The only way to get SP1 at this point is the whole ~90MB ONPREV.EXE file,
which is the entire application. The SP1 preview is not available as a
patch (to be applied on top of the installed application).

Sorry for interruption, but you mean I have to uninstall the current Onenote
that I have install ~90MB ONPREV.EXE file then, when the Onenote SP1 is out
I need to uninstall the Onenote SP1 beta and reinstall the SP1 final
version? Would that be the whole thing which mean similar to ONPREV.EXE or I
need to install Onenote from my original CD's and then the SP1 update patch?

the steps you list are correct.

I don't know if MS has published whether or not they will
produce both an SP1 patch and a full version of the
product that includes the SP1 fixes (analagous to the
ONPREV file).

The Product FAQ
(http://www.microsoft.com/office/onenote/prodinfo/faq.mspx
) sort of implies that only a patch will be released, but
I can't imagine that there won't be an updated
downloadable 60 day trial copy.

Having said all of that, the uninstall/reinstall process
does not take a lot of time, and your settings and Notes
files will be retained (take a backup just in case!).

Yes, that's exactly what you'll have to do. When the final SP1 ships
you'll uninstall the SP1 preview, reinstall your original version of OneNote
2003, then apply the released SP1 patch.

There will be a free patch for current owners (that must be applied to the
RTM version, hence the need to uninstall the preview and re-install the RTM
version).

There will also be a full install version of SP1, but that will not be
available for free (duh). It will become the new OneNote, and RTM will no
longer be shipped.

Either way you end up with the same product.
