Mary -
Thanks for all the help
) I bit the bullet and installed Office 2007. It
installed perfectly. Now when 2003 starts, it starts with InstallShield
trying to install, stating that there is an error and to use the repair
feature (oh, well). Click off that dialog and Word starts just fine. Excel
2003 starts fine. I opened my 2003 docs etc without any problem in 2007.
Question now is - How can I manually rid myself of Office 2003? I am
comfortable with registry changes.
Thanks again,
:
Have you attempted to copy the entire CD to your hard drive and installing
from
there?

Mary -
I did the Disk Cleanup. I show MSOCache folder on two drives, both show
as
"0" when in fact the folder contains the install info. Disk Cleanup did
not
remove either of the folders.
I cannot delete the Folder/files during setup because I never get to
"Finish."
As far as I can tell it didn't delete the temporary internet of temp
folder
either.
What next?
Thanks for taking the time to help with this problem

And you say the CleanUp utility doesn't work for you? Have you tried in
safe
mode? Are all your drivers current?

Thanks for the insight - but I don't know what I am reading
I am including the text and hoping that you will be able to help me
out.
I
removed registry keys for Office 8, 9, 10, and 12 as well as the
remnents
left behind by OfficeXP in Program Files. I tried a install with
NOD32
and
PestPatrol turned off.

Mary - Thanks for the reply. The Cleanup Utility has been tried
several
times, but for some reason it shows an empty dialog box - no apps
listed. I
do have remnents of Office XP still in Program Files, and I am
sure
that
there are keys in the Registry as well. Would I be safe in
removing
the
Office 10 keys?
I did find a copy of MSIUU.exe when I installed Support Tools. It
didn't
do
much better, there were 5 entries none of which are associated
with
my
problem.
Will wait for your reply on key removal.

I need to do a repair or reinstall Office 2003. NO go on any
front.
The Windows Installer starts, runs 20 seconds or so then gives
the
following error:
This patch package could not be opened. Verifgy that the patch
package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application
vendor
to
verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
The same error occurs via add/remove apps or runnning setup via
the
CD.
Also, I just recently lost the ability to have "Recent Files"
from
the
File
menu in both Word and Excel. The option from the Options menu
is
grayed
out.
AND every new file that is opened opens in a new instance of
Word.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
