Uninstall word 2002

I can not uninstall word 2002. It still shows in my control panel and when I
go to remove it, a dialog box opens under windows installer which states the
patch can not be opened. Verify the patch package exists and that you can
access it, or contact the application vender to verify that this is a valid
Windows installer patch.

I have tried to reinstall or repair using my Works cd and it will not install.
