Uninstalled Word 2004 test drive - now problems with Word X

M

M. Butler

I installed the "Test Drive" version of Microsoft Word 2004 on my ibook, G2,
500 mhz, machine. I am running Panther. After trying it for a couple days
and becoming very frustrated with the program I followed all directions to
remove the program ... I removed only the 2004 version.

After uninstalling I could not automatically open any of my word documents.
I never "created" any using the test drive, but I can't open any of my
documents created on my Word X version.

Trying to open these documents I received an error message:
"The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error
code -10660."

If I open Word X then go File --> Open in word, it'll work

I reloaded the testdrive program again, and uninstalled it again, leaving
"preferences" and I still have the problem.

Double clicking on the docs opens them automatically in the new Word
program. I don't want the 2004 version (you can't even print with this test
version), but I can't automatically
open my docs anymore!

Any suggestions? I did file a report on the Microsoft Word site, but haven't
received any response.

Word automatically opens documents with the last version installed, I
believe, but you can usually change that. After un-installing 2004, did you
try setting word documents to open in X by doing a Get Info (cmd-I) on one,
using the Open With... Section, set a version of Word, and click Change All?

Thanks Daiya;
As soon as I saw your explanation it sparked my memory! It’s been a
long while since I’ve had to go in and make those adjustments and I
just forgot about it! It worked and all is back to normal.

Thanks for the help!
