Uninstalling Office 07 Beta and reinstalling Office 03

K

Ken

I have about had it with the beta. After this week if massive updates from
Microsoft, my Outlook 07 Beta runs about as fast as a turtle. Can I
uninstall it and reinstall Office 03? If so what would the process be?

P

Patrick Schmid [MVP]

Office 2007 Diagnostics should solve any problem you had with the
massive patches. Also, reboot your computer.
If you want to go back, remove 2007 completely and reinstall Outlook
2003 (if it is currently installed, remove it first, reboot then
reinstall).

I ran office diagnostics several times and the only thing that comes up is
that there are two conflicting versions of Outlook. I uninstalled Outlook 03
and it appears as if it is still showing it is installed. I cant see in Add
Remove Programs a separate entry for Outlook. I think it uninstalls along
with Office 03. Am I right?

Office Diagostics is pretty much a joke if you can't even load Office or an
of its programs. After running it, it told me to click on the Office Icon
after loading a program... and none but OneNote will load. All I get is the
opening screen window B2TR and then... crash.

Safe mode... crash.

Detect and repair. CRASH.

Word, Outlook, it doesn't matter.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted and still the same issues.

I'm not sure if the trigger for these events was TR or the new Messeger. I
did a restore and nada. Tried going back a bit further. More nada.

Program Manager shows it Office as installed... but... crash.

And no air bags.

Outlook 2003 can be a separate program, or it can be part of Office. So
you might have to hit Change for Office 2007.
Notice that after you did, you need to repair the Office 2007
installation.

Your post came through.

CRASH.
You dug your hole deeper with that. Detect and Repair is Office 2003. If
you run it, 2007 will be in total limbo and you need to run a repair of
it.

I think you have probably done everything wrong that could be done (the
most important rule, don't touch Office 2003 setup while 2007 is
installed; if you do, 2007 setup needs to run in repair mode and it
might make it), and your 2007 installation is hopeless (and your 2003
prob. too). Send me an email. You can get my email address from my
website. I'll give you the manual removal steps that will remove it from
your computer for sure. After you removed 2007, remove 2003 as well,
reboot and check that it is gone. Then decide what you want on that
machine.
If you want 2003 and 2007, then install 2003 first, patch it fully, then
install 2007. When MS releases patches for 2003, it might be that
suddenly Word files (doc) open with 2003 instead of 2007. In that case,
run Office Diagnostics and it should fix that issue. Most importantly,
while 2007 is installed, don't touch the 2003 setup. That means no
Detect & Repair, no repairing or changing of 2003 setup.
If you want to go with a parallel install, you need to decide first
which Outlook (2003 or 2007) you want. If you want 2003, don't install
2007. If you want 2007, don't install 2003 when you install Office 2003.
There can always be only one Outlook on any computer.

I attempted to post this and got an error message.

I received this error message when I attempted to add/delete programs for

Also how do I make a backup of all my email folders, calendar, and contacts
so I do not lose them until I get a properly running Outlook?

Don't mess with the 2003 setup while 2007 is installed. You need to
remove 2007 first, then remove 2003. Emails and contacts are stored in a
file that is not affected by the setup. In fact, it should upgrade your
2003 mail profile to 2007.
