Uninstalling Office 2007 (BETA) without getting Error 1402

I am trying to install Office Pro 2007 but need to un install Office Pro 2007
(BETA) first. Every time I try to uninstall I get the following message.
"Error 1402 Setup cannot open the registey key
UNKNOWN\.pps\PersistentHandler. Verify that you have sufficient permissions
to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS)
for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS, see."

I have used regedit to search the registry and it isn't there. How can I
complete the uninstall of Office 2007 (BETA) as described in
support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/?
