uninstalling Office Test Drive; leaving my Word

D

deecy//

I have my own MS Word program (CD) which is installed on my new IMac
(it came across from my old Mac when I migrated the old Mac's HD.).
Unfortunarely my new iMac came with a test drive version of MS OFFICE
which expires in a few weeks.
I do not need the Office components, only my own Word. I tried
uninstalling the Test version, byt the uninstaller wants to uninstall
everything, including my own Word copy.
This is unacceptable because I write and have many important Word
files.
Is there any way to get rid of the Test Office version while leaving my
own Word intact on the hard drive.
I don't know whether my own Word CD will allow me to re-install Word on
the new machine. It would be using the CD a second time on a different
Mac - something I think MS would not allow.
Furthermore, I am afraid I will, as I said, lose all my Word documents.

Thanks for help.

If you have the CD and the CD Key for your previous copy, you will be
able to install it on your new iMac (assuming that the previous copy is
Word98 or later - there may be problems with earlier versions, but you
should have seen them already if you've run that version).

Your files stored outside the application folder will be preserved by
Remove Office.

If you want to keep your settings, autocorrect entries, etc., see

Use Firefox or another non-Safari browser, or, if you use Safari, hit
refresh a few times per page.

Dear JE:
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately I am unable to use Office
Uninstaller because when I get to the point of "UNINSTALL" a dialogue
box tells me it cannot because Word is still open (it is not.)
So unless I remove all MS files to the trash and try to use my CD to
re-install y 2004 Word, I don't know what to do.
The thing that's driving me crazy is a recurring pop-up reminder that I
only have 30 days left on the trial version.

Sleepless in New York.

1) If you've used Entourage, make sure that the database daemon isn't
running (Choose the Entourage/Turn off Office Notifications... menu
item).

2) In System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items, remove any Office
applications.

3) Empty the trash.

4) Log out, then log in.

5) Run Remove Office. Do you still get the "Word is still open" message?
