Got a user here that I am trying to uninstall Office XP from their computer.
Go to add remove programs and select Office XP - remove. It gets to 3 bars
in "gathering information" and remains there for hours. Never gets any
further.
Go to add remove programs - Office XP - change - *any* selection there just
hangs at gathering information for hours.
Go to Office on the web - check for updates - SP3 gets downloaded then hangs
about 1/3 of the way through for hours "installing".
Run setup from the network XP install folder - hangs for hours "gathering
information".
This all started with the user having problems accessing an Excel file. Now
clicking on the folder that holds the Excel file locks up the computer.
These symptoms occur from different profiles on the same computer. *None* of
the symptoms occur from *any* *other* computer, using the users login
credentials or any other login credentials.
This all leads me to believe #1. the problem is with the computer, not the
files or profile.
#2. an uninstall and reinstall of Office XP on this computer *may* solve the
problem.
Tried upgrading to Office 2003 - hangs on gathering information.
Seems like the installer is corrupt?
How can I get this uninstalled?
TIA
