Uninstalling the Remove Hidden Data tool

H

Hannibal

I am running XP with Office XP and I decided to try the
application that removes hidden data from documents,
rhdtool.exe. The download and install process went well.
There was a Remove Hidden Data folder under the Program
Files\MS Office folder as expected. There was the Remove
Hidden Data option on the Word File drop down menu. The
application seemed to operate okay. There is the message
saying that there are changes to the global template,
Normal.dot and do I want to save these changes every time
I close a Word document.

Yesterday I decided to remove this application so I used
Control Panel\Add Remove software which removed the
program. The option was removed from the Word File drop
down menu.

Today I am receiving the message about changes to the
global template and I checked and the Remove Hidden Data
option is back on the File menu. This program is not
listed under Control Panel\Add Remove Programs and the
folder is missing from the Program Files\MS Office folder.

Why do I continue to see this option on the Word File
menu and receiving the warning message about changes to
the global template?

How do completely uninstall rhdtool?

Thank you.

Hi Hannibal,

If you uninstalled it from the Control Panel then it should be uninstalled. What happens if you click "Yes" to save changes? Are you prompted again the next time you exit Word?

Additionally, when you uninstall the RHD tool the menu item under File is not removed. You need to manually remove the menu item using the following steps:

- Go to Tools/Customize
- Open the File menu
- Drag off the RHD command
