Unique ID keeps changing when tasks are added or deleted

Hi, Is it normal in the MSProject for the Unique ID to
change for a task when a new task has been added or
existing task has been deleted? It makes all my data
reference to the Unique ID's incorrect.
Any help is appreciated.

Is it unique ID or WBS that isn't renumbering properly?
If it's WBS you need to renumber (Project, WBS, Renumber).

If it isn't WBS, then it sounds like unique ID is
functioning properly. Project creates unique ID in the
order a task, resource or assignment is created. So
regardless of its position in a task or resource sheet a
new task or resource could have a higher unique ID than
tasks or resources immediately above or below. Check the
help file for a better explanation.

My bet is that you're asking about "Unique ID" but you're actually seeing (&
referencing) the "ID" field.

The UniqueID is a number assigned when the task is added, and is NEVER
changed (though it may get reported slightly differently for consolidated /
inserted projects).

The ID is simply an index in the list of tasks that gets changed whenever
tasks get added, deleted or permanently re-sorted.
