Unique Names w/ Conditions

Your help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Here is an example of my spreadsheet:

Name Seen Called Cancelled
Fred *
Kathy *
Shelly *
Kim *
Kathy *
Fred *
Shelly *
Fred *
Kim *
Kathy *

Asterisks are used to indicate the status of each client (Name).
I need a formula (for example) that will tell me how many "Seen"
clients I have (not the # of times they were seen). In this case, the
result would be 4.

Try this array formula** :

=SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(IF(B2:B11<>"",MATCH(A2:A11,A2:A11,0)),ROW(A2:A11)-ROW(A2)+1),1))

** array formulas need to be entered using the key combination of
CTRL,SHIFT,ENTER (not just ENTER). Hold down both the CTRL key and the SHIFT
key then hit ENTER.

Assumes no empty cells in the name range.
