Unique Project ID

Hi,

Looking for some help with identifying projects once I have saved them to
Excel, using ‘save as’ and the export wizard

The basic problem I have is that I can identify a single project by the
project name (as completed in the properties box) and all is well for a
single project.

However when I group a set of project together and have a summary project
i.e. I have inserted sub projects into a master plan. I want to be able to
identify all of the sub projects as part of the summary project. For example :

Summary Project called “Summary1â€
Sub Projects, A, B, C & D

The projects names that get exported by MSP into Excel are A, B, C & D yet
from a reporting point of view I want to know that they are actually Summary1
But I cant find a field that represents the summary project all I get is A,
B, C or D as the project name.

I thought about adding a unique text filed to the project, but I am
conscious of having to update this column every time a new task was entered
into the project.

Any idea how I can uniquely identify a summary project on a sub project ?

Thanks

AMH,
Try including the Project field in your export. If that doesn't help,
please elaborate on what you need.

Thanks John I do include the Project and that’s the problem, if I have a
group of plans that all form part of a project each sub project plan has its
own name. I don’t want this in the output file.

I want each plan to have a unique name in MS Project, but when I export I
want the Project name to be exported, I will try and give an example

Project Migration
Sub plan 1 Area 1
Sub plan 2 Area 2
Sub plan 3 Area 3
Sub plan 4 Area 4

I therefore have 5 project plans, Migration (summary project plan with links
to the 4 sub projects) and Area 1, Area 2, Area 3, Area 4

With MSP I want each plan to have a unique name thus they are called
Migration, Area, 1, 2, 3 & 4

However in the export file I want to identify all plan as Migration for
summarising progress against the Migration project.

I hope this has explained the problem clearer

AMH,
OK, if I understand correctly you want each project and subproject to be
individually identified in Project but in Excel you want each project
and the subprojects under it to be identified with the project name,
correct? If so, then try using a spare text field to set up your
identification scheme. Just remember that the spare text field at the
subproject level is at the subproject level, not at the project level.

Hope this helps.
