Universal Data Connection to Sharepoint List Select Command

When i create a new UDC connection to a sharepoint list, I notice it contains
a "Query" element in the "SelectCommand" node. I am wondering how it is
used, as if possible I would like to use it to filter the Sharepoint List.
Can someone point me to an example or documentation? thanks
