"Unknown Error (-50)"

D

Duncan Fowler

I have a MSN Email account and am using it with Entourage.

Recently I had to re-create my mail accounts.
Since then I am unable to get my "sent" mail folder loaded with messages I
have sent.

Apparently I have 1098 messages waiting to be downloaded and when I run the
Send Receive command I get a "unknown error (-50) occurred"

The latest sent messages I have been able to download are from 11/21/06

Is there a fix for this?

My computer is on 24/7 so it should be able to get messages even during slow
times on the net.

I have a MSN Email account and am using it with Entourage.

Recently I had to re-create my mail accounts.
Since then I am unable to get my "sent" mail folder loaded with messages I

We need to know:
what type of account... IMAP, POP, Exchange
What version of Entourage... Entourage 2004 v 11.3.6
What version of OS... 10.4.11

Why did you have to re-create your accounts? Was there a system crash?
Knowing the circumstances will help us know what to suggest.

If you are still in Tiger, you might need to download the combo updater from
Apple and run it again rather than using Software Update. Doing so
overwrites potentially problem-causing files. Several users have reported
this fixed some odd problems they were having with Entourage. Combo updaters
will install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need to roll back or
do a clean install.

From the Error page: Error Page

One user found this solution: Run "Remove Office", then run Repair
Permissions. Install from your CD and apply all updates. Restart and then
run Repair Permissions again.

You'll need your CD key when using "Remove Office".

You need to get these updaters:

11.3.5 combo
11.3.6 requires 11.3.5 to be installed
11.3.7 requires 11.3.6 to be installed
11.3.8 requires 11.3.7 to be installed
11.3.9 requires 11.3.8 to be installed

Microsoft does not update each application every time an update is released.

The current version of Entourage 2004 is 11.3.6.

Thanks for your interest in my issue

MSN Accounts are Hotmail accounts. I suspect it is an IMAP but not sure.
I have Mac Office 2004 and have installed all updates so it is 11.3.9
Entourage says it is 11.3.6
I am Running Leopard 10.5.1 on a new MacBook pro with 2.4 Intel, 4 gig
memory, 250 HD
I also use Parallels with Vista Ultimate on this machine (But this has not
been running when I have the problem.)

Since your note I did drag and dump MS Office in the trash and then did a
re-install and made sure all updates were applied.

I ran Repair Permissions after the re-install.

My next move will be to delete and re-create my Email account.

Do you have other suggestions?

I reinstalled Leopard because I could not see the other machines on my
network and Apple Tech Support was not able to give me a solution. My
re-build worked fine

MSN Accounts are Hotmail accounts. I suspect it is an IMAP but not sure.
I have Mac Office 2004 and have installed all updates so it is 11.3.9
Entourage says it is 11.3.6

You can tell what type of account by either looking in Accounts window (it
will state POP or IMAP after the account name) or viewing the folder list.
In the folder list IMAP account are listed under "Folders on My Computer"
with a triangle that you toggle to show Inbox, Deleted Items, Drafts, Sent
etc.

If it¹s a POP account, Entourage can only download what¹s left on the
server. An IMAP account should connect and download all server messages. You
might need to subscribe to that folder. Also in Schedules, be sure you have
selected under ³Click for account options² to select to sync your Sent
items. For info on the differences between IMAP and POP see:

POP & IMAP Accounts <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/pop_imap.html>

If you read the blog article it will explain why Entourage is showing
11.3.6. The true test of an Office upgrade is the Microsoft Component
Plugin. It's always updated where individual applications are not always
updated.

If you continue to have problems, you might want to monitor your network
traffic to see what Entourage is saying to your MSN server. It might give
you a clue as to what is happening.
