Unknown error message when adding contact

I have an employee who is using Outlook 2000 and keeps
running into the following message error when trying to
add a contact.

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If
the problem persists, restart Outlook."

We have tried repairing and reinstalling Outlook. We have
tried importing his contacts into a new folder and we have
tried entering his contacts in by hand, but the error
message keeps reappearing.
