unknown source of a password

All of a sudden an "enter password" prompt appeared in the
access program even though we do not require a password
nor did we enter a password for access to this program.
How could a password be needed now and how do we find out
what it is? I tried the delete password instructions,
however we need the password in order to delete it. Any
suggestions? Can I override this password somehow?

From your description, I'm assuming you are getting prompted for a password
alone, and not a username password.

If so, it sounds like someone might have opened the mdb in Word; that I'm
afraid will render the mdb useless. Your only option is to go to your last
backup.
