Unknown - Temp Database mdf ???

I was taking a look at the database files stored on the SQL server for
my project 2003 server deployment. I found one called (tempdb.mdf) that
was almost a gig in size. I know this is not my project server or WSS
database files that are in use. So what it is it and can I get rid of
it?

Don't do that.

Its a temp db in your sql server which is used by SQL. I don't have details
handy on that. But don't delete that, else your Project (rather SQL)
nightmare will start.

This is a database maintained by SQL Server as a sort of "scratch pad". It
gets rebuilt everytime SQL Server is started.
