no. I'm using FP 2002 the index page has a template...........when i open the
navigation view all i see is the home page. Does this have anything to do
with it?

Let me clarify..............I have a big website I am trying to clean (not my
own so it has been created using who knows what) I opened the website with
Frontpage 2002 and attempted to clean it with the site summary. However many
(almost all) the files come up as unlinked however that is not the case. Why
are these linked files coming up as unlinked? and there is no
javascript...............do i have to initialize anything in FP other than
the homepage........?

Try recalculating hyperlinks ( Tools > Recalculate Hyperlinks ) and then run the unlinked items
check.

Does your Home page have a house icon in Folder View and/or the
Files/Folders list? If not, FrontPage does not recognise it as the
Home Page - hence the number of unlinked files.

I tried recalculating the links.....nothing changed, My homepage does indeed
appear as a home icon in the navigation view however it seems weird to me
that it is the only file present..............I also found out that a
template used in the site was linking to the files with an http:// refrence
rather than directly to the file..........i am in the process of changing
this so the link is addressed directly to the file sans http://......should
that make a difference? thank you both so much for your help.

You also have to build the navigation structure by dragging individual files into navigation view
and connecting them to the home page, etc.

Yes - linking to pages with http:// reference will make the pages
"unlinked". FP will assume that all the links are to pages on an
external site.
If you look at the broken hyperlinks report, all these links will be
listed there, it may be easier to correct them there.

Are you linking them to the home page?

Keep it Simple

I am having a similiar problem as well. I've created a website by doing a
"save as" from another website I created a few years ago. None of my buttons
are working when you go to the home page. For example, I click on "About Us"
& it links to the old website that I used to have.

How do I get rid of the links from the old website???

You have to select each link and then edit it to point to the correct page, etc.
