Unlinking tables

Does anyone know how to unlink a table? I am copying a
cost study table and renaming it. I want it to be
accessible for future reference, but I don't want it to be
altered each time I open Access. I tried right clicking
on the table I want to remain the same, selecting delete
and selecting to delete the link capabilities. Yet, then
the table disappears and I can't access it. I went to
tools, options, view and selected show hidden and that
didn't work. Any ideas? I'm sure this is elementary and
I'm a big goof. I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Henry

Linked tables are not actually part of the database; instead, they are
software links to tables located in another database. By deleting the link
you are, in effect, deleting the "table" from your database (you didn't
actually delete the table, however, on the representation of the table link
in the database window).

Other than that, I'm not sure what you're asking. Do you want to import the
tables into your database? This copies the table structure and data (if you
so choose) into your database so that you don't have to link the tables. You
can do this by right-clicking in the database window (where all the tables,
forms, etc are listed) and selecting Import. Follow the prompts and you'll
figure it out.

I basically want to save the data as of today, let's say,
as is. I want the table to represent the cost of items
and materials for the year 2003. So, in 2004 when we
change costs and prices in the table we still have an
actual account of the prices in 2003 that we can query
from and use for whatever purpose. I just want the table
to remain unchanged when I open the database or not
updated from the main related tables.

I tried the delete...but the table disappears. I tried
the import you suggested, but it still copies the
relationships. The table has the little arrow next to it
in the database window. I even clicked options in the
import segment and un checked import relationships, but
that didn't work.

Is there a way to delete the primary key from the table.
I did go the long way around all this. I opened a new
table and copy/paste all info in. All I had to do is name
the columns and "wall-la" the data remains unchanged. I
still would like to know how to do it the "easier way".

Thanks for your help.

You were probably trying to import a link from another database ... you must
find out what the link in THAT database was pointing to, then import from
there (not the link) ... sounds confusing, I know, but basically you have to
"follow the trail" until you find the database where the table isn't linked.
