Unlocking Read-Only Documents

A

aloha gal

After recent cpu repairs (plus adding more memory), the software was reloaded (in Windows 98). Now having problems w/my Office Word 2000 documents all opening in "read-only". They were not designated that way, nor are they shared & I'm not on a network
I have tried
1. Going to Outline, Expand, but the "unlock" icon is gray on the task bar
2. Renaming the doc but when opening it a 2nd time, it is in "read-only" again.
What can I do to correct the root cause of this problem so that my Word docs are not "read-only" without being assigned that way, which has been an enormous hassle
Thanks for any help you can provide

HI Aloha gal,

See the article "I keep getting files that I am working on locked for
editing. Word only allows me to open them read-only" at:

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
