Unnumbered captions

K

Kathy

I do not want to number the captions under my graphics. How can I get rid of
the number that automatically shows up?

If you do not want the captions to appear in a table of contents, you may as
well just insert ordinary text.

If you do want it to appear in the table of contents, you will need to
format the font of the number so that it is hidden.

If you have a lot of captions, you may want to use a macro to do that.

The captions don't have to be numbered to be in a Table of Figures. Just
using the Caption (or any other) style will suffice. In the Table of Figures
Options, there is an option to build the TOF based on a given style. And of
course any style can be linked to any level in a TOC. The listings in the
TOF/TOC can even be numbered, if desired, by adding numbering to the TOC/TOF
style.

In my test, if I deleted the SEQ field from a caption, it did not get picked
up in the table of contents.

It won't be picked up by the TOC because the Caption style has no outline
level (but of course you could give it one in the Table of Contents
Options). It won't be picked up by the TOF, either, unless you explicitly
select Caption as the style to base the TOF on (Table of Figures Options).
