Unprotect Document grayed out in Word 2000

I designed a form for a client and protected it as a "form" with a password.

I have had to revise the form on several occasions, in the past. "Unprotect
Document" was readily available in Tools drop down. The last time I revised
it was in August 2008. I have not installed any upgrades to Word since then.
I am using MS Windows XP and have installed at least one SP (SP 3) since
then. I cannot recall when SP2 was installed.

Anyhow, just a moment ago I opened the document and find "Unprotect
Document" is grayed out and inaccessible. What could have changed that would
cause that to happen?

You've landed in a discussion group for users of Mac versions of Word. Mac
versions differ variously from PC versions. Although several people here use
both PCs and Macs and may give you an answer soon, it's likely that more
people in a PC group have experienced your specific problem. Here's where

Most likely, where your cursor is resting.

Unless your cursor is inside a protected section, that option will be greyed
out.

Of course, it could be that the document is read-only, or that someone else
has previously unprotected it.

Can you actually edit in it?
