Unprotect documents

I have some documents that were created on Excel 2003 and were protected.
Some of them can be unprotected on the new Excel 2007 and some of them can't.
The problem is that these documents are distributed world wide and must be
oft updated. but if they can't be unprotected the update is not possible.

1. take all the documents to a machine running Excel 2003
2. unprotect them
3. distribute the unprotected versions
