unread e-mail in my sent folde

Every time I send an e-mail I get a 2 copies of the e-mail in my sent folder.
One gets put there after it has been processed in my outbox, this is normal.
The other one goes into the sent folder as soon as I hit send and it is
marked as unread. This started happening a few months ago and I do not know
what I might have done to make outlook do this. Please help as I am getting
tired of having to go to my sent folder and getting rid of the extra messages.
