Unread mail notification in Outlook 2003

I have my Outlook 2003 set up so that it minimizes to the system tray
(aka - the notification area). Before, when it minimized to the task
bar, when I had unread mail I would get an envelope in the system tray
and it would stay there for as long as there were unread messages in my
inbox.

When I change the setting to minimize to the system tray the envelope
appears when a new message arrives but then almost immediately
disappears. How can I get this notification envelope to stay in the
tray just like it does when Outlook is minimized to the task bar?

Please help!

Hi,
Rightclick START
select Properties
Taskbar tap
Customize button
select "You have new unopened items"
choose "Allways show" and click OK.

Dave,

Thanks, but that's not it. That will ensure that the envelope is
displayed in the notification area when it appears, but doesn't prevent
it from disappearing.

Roger.
