Unread messages look bold but gray

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I have my preferences set so that unread messages are both bold and black and read messages are gray. However my unread messages sometimes look black and bold and sometimes look gray and bold. This makes it very hard to discern quickly which messages have been read and which have not. I think it might have something to do with receiving the emails also on my iphone, but I can't find any consistency to support that theory. Any thoughts?

I have my preferences set so that unread messages are both bold and black and
read messages are gray.

Try turning off the colors to show read/unread. I find the default of using
nothing works best. YMMV
