Unread Messages Not Bolded

I switched from Mail to Entourage and set my view email preferences to show unread messages as black and bolded while my read messages are supposed to be gray. But most of the time, all of my new messages are gray. Every now and then a black, bolded new messages appears in my inbox. I'm so confused.

I use an IMAP account in Gmail to allows to use Entourage and I have my university alias set as my default alias in Gmail. I also have two accounts in Entourage, gmail and one that sends emails under my university alias. The gmail account in Entourage, which still receives all of my mail too, shows all my unread new messages as black and bolded. What have I done wrong?

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that your university account
forwards messages to your Gmail account? In that case, I believe there's a
good chance that the university account will mark a message read when it
forwards it.

If that's not the problem, please try to describe it more specifically.
