Unrecognizable database format

I am attempting to convert an Access 97 Db to an Access
2000 Db. It seems to convert but when I try to launch the
application I get an "unrecognizable database format"
error. The computer has Windows XP as the operating
system. Any suggestions?

I've seen this error message when trying to open an Access database with an
"older" version of Access. You didn't say which version of Access you are
using on the WinXP machine, nor which version of Access you are using to do
the conversion.

Sorry about that. I brought the Access 97 database over
from a Win 98 system to the Win XP system which runs
Access 2000. I converted the database on that system from
A97 to A2000. I then try to launch my program (which is a
custom software program written in Delphi) but it cannot
connect to the database. I get the error of unrecognized
database format.

So, you're saying that your Delphi application is having trouble recognizing
the Access 2000 database? Have you checked in a Delphi newsgroup, too?

Are you able to open the Access 2000 database in Access?

I don't know anything about Delphi, but in, say, Visual Basic programs, you
set references to various COM objects so that you can communicate with
Access. To communicate with Access 97, you needed a reference to DAO 3.5x.
To communicate with Access 2000 and up, you need a reference to DAO 3.6.
